Dogs and Tattoos - What Could Be Better?

Just like the artwork you display around your home, tattoos are artwork you display on your body.

We get tattoos of things that mean the world to us. They’re unique and personal, and they were created by an artist who spent years developing their specific skills. Each one is a work of art!

I love seeing people who display their very favourite things on their skin. It shows the passion, love, and dedication with which they live their lives.

Cambridge Suites Hotel: Part 2 | Dog Friendly Halifax

Halifax and HRM is a fairly dog friendly place! I’ve been working on a side project over the last year where I showcase some of these fabulous businesses by doing a photo shoot at their location.

Last weekend I coordinated with Cambridge Suites in Halifax (right near Citadel Hill!) to photograph 3 stunning pups around their hotel! We were given access to a few guest suites, the rooftop patio, and the lobby. So much fun! And the staff were thrilled to meet these sweet models.

In today’s blog, please meet Bella and Beanie the Miniature Dachshunds!

A Bernedoodle also joined me at Cambridge Suites that day…

Leto the Bearded Dragon

Leto the bearded dragon was such a cool dude to photograph! I’m mainly a dog photographer, but I am always up for the exciting challenge of photographing other animals and pets. No matter how big or small!

I had such a great time meeting Leto (my first bearded dragon friend!) in his living room. I captured exactly what I wanted to - a cool critter just hanging out around his home. I absolutely love these portraits and can’t wait for another in-home session like this!

Lola's Session at Fisherman's Cove

Beautiful Lola the Akita had her session in January - she loves the cold weather! We went to Fisherman’s Cove in Eastern Passage where we hardly saw a soul and practically had the place to ourselves! We used the boardwalk, the beaches, and the tall grass… and Lola was a rockstar (she takes modeling just as seriously as Ruby does).

For those dogs who love winter, this is the perfect time of year to have them photographed. They’re comfortable with the temperature, and they’re so happy to be out exploring!

And just like with 90% of Wet Nose sessions, Lola was on leash in every photo and I removed it during editing. I want all pups to be safe while I’m photographing them, and we obey the laws for the locations we use. So if your pup doesn’t have reliable recall, don’t let that hold you back from booking the session you’ve been daydreaming about!

Enjoy Lola’s foggy winter portraits…

Diesel - Frenchie Cuteness Overload!

I absolutely love how all the connections I’ve made over the last few years in business have all intertwined and led to even more connections!

Back in 2015 I photographed a very sweet French Bulldog named Maple, and got along well with her wonderful mum. I didn’t cross paths with her again for a few years, but then discovered she works at Planet Paws! She then enrolled her new pup, Bismarck, as one of my Ambassadogs in 2017 so we got to catch up again and I found out that her dream of becoming a French Bulldog breeder was finally happening for her. So exciting!

Through the Ambassadog program that year she connected with one of my other wonderful clients, who then ended up bringing one of the puppies from that first Frenchie litter home. That puppy was Dante, who is an Ambassadog this year!

And just last month, one of Dante’s littermates, Diesel, had his very own Wet Nose session!

I hope I didn’t lose you with that story and the various connections! But it’s so cool to see how small and connected this dog owner community is here, and how many wonderful people and dogs I get to meet (and photograph)! I feel so lucky and so happy to be doing what I do.

Alright, and without any further ado, I want to show you some of Diesel’s portraits from his session at Fisherman’s Cove! He’s only about 8 months old, but he was a fast learner and got right into his modeling career. Check him out!

Tod and Memphis: Camping Dogs Photo Session

Tod and Memphis are best buds, even though they seem like complete opposites. Tod the Beagle is eager to pose but always looks quite serious. He's also a little guy. Memphis the Bernese towers over him and always has the happiest, goofiest grin on his face. They are the most adorable duo and I absolutely loved photographing them!

For their photo session, their mum loved the idea of a camping theme. So we found a beautiful park beside a lake and set them up with their own little camp for their photo shoot!

Do your dogs love camping with you? What's their favourite part of a camping trip?

Ambassadogs: Rainbow Haven Beach

My amazing Ambassadogs enjoyed another adventure and photo shoot this month, and this time we went to Rainbow Haven!

All 5 of this year's Ambassadogs were there and they had so much fun together. When we first arrived we went to a more secluded section of the beach and let the pups get their sillies out. We encouraged them to play in the water, too, which was hilarious and adorable. Then we explored some of the grassier areas for a change of scenery and color! Just before 8pm (when the parking lot is gated!) we did some running photos on the boardwalk, and then drove down the road just a little so that we could enjoy the beautiful sunset and soak up those last golden rays of the day.

These pups are SO sweet and are quickly becoming best buds. Doing these Ambassadog sessions is a great way for me to explore new locations and practice some ideas I've been wanting to shoot, and it's just a wonderful time for us to spend a fun evening together!

If you want to be first on the list to get details about next year's Ambassadog program, make sure to get on the Wet Nose Images email list. Those on the list always get first dibs on the good stuff, as well as getting updates about blog posts, fun tips for photography, and pup stuff! Find the green signup box at the bottom of this page (after you enjoy all these sweet faces) and join the list.

And the collars for this session were provided by Missy Leigh Canines! They all have a nautical theme - anchors, beach balls, and sea animals. So adorable!

So without further ado, and in order of appearance... here are Ember, Norbert, Gilbert, Dante, and Haven:

How to Choose a Photographer (For Any Occasion)

Choosing a photographer is tough.

Whether you need someone to photograph your wedding, your baby, or your dog, there are often lots of choices in your area and as a client it can be hard to know which one is going to be the best fit for you. What is the difference between all of these options? How do you make sure you're picking the right one?

The good news is that there is no ONE right answer that fits everyone. Each photographer is different, they offer a different experience, and create different work. But there is a right photographer for you! And I will help you find them.

Here are some important things to keep in mind and help you find the right match for YOU:

1) The look or style of the images.

Do you love the colors in that photographer's portfolio? Can you imagine yourself (or your dog) in those images? Do you love bold colours or something more pastel? Or maybe you're looking for a more moody vibe? Find a photographer whose work you love to look at.

2) The location or setting of the images.

Does this photographer primarily use a studio or an outdoor location? Which one excites you the most for your own photos? What are you envisioning for your session?

3) Their reputation.

Do you know a friend who has used this photographer before? If not, can you look at some reviews and see if they resonate with you and make you feel excited about working with this person? Reading what other clients have to say is really helpful. How much did they love their experience? Are they giving details about it that help you imagine yourself in the same scenario? You can find reviews on Google, on Facebook, or even on the photographer's website.

4) Their specialty.

I think this is most important part. What is this photographer known for? What type of photography do they show the most in their portfolio/website? If they're showing weddings but you need photos of your baby, they might not be the best fit. It's just not what they seem to do the most. And you want someone with experience. Every type of photography is very different and requires different skill sets.
But if their entire website is dedicated to dogs and that's exactly what you're looking for... then you're on the right track.

In the end, you want to take the information available to you and decide on a few really great choices to contact for more information. You can meet up with them in person prior to booking and make sure you get along well and you feel comfortable with them. This initial meeting is great for both the client and the photographer! It gets your journey off to a wonderful start.

There is a perfect photographer out there for you, and now you have these tools at your disposal to find them!

10,000 Carrots Rabbit Rescue - Pet Photography

Did you know that February is Adopt a Rescued Rabbit Month?

And did you know that you can do just that, here in Halifax and HRM? We have a wonderful rabbit rescue called 10,000 Carrots and they take such good care of the sweet bunnies who need their help. They have foster homes who take care of bunnies while they wait to be adopted, and there are also a number of adoption events coming up in March if you want to get out and meet some of the organizers and rabbits!

I met up with 6 rabbits who were rescues (3 are adopted by this family and 3 are fosters) and it was so much fun to meet these unique pets and learn more about them. It was a great opportunity to flex my pet photography skills and see what it's like to photograph other animals beyond the dogs I'm typically working with.

Here are some of my very favourite bunny photos from that day!
